East High School Student, Nathan Schmidt, is an example of one of the many outstanding students we have in our District. His passion and interest in physics has helped him receive three different Young Scholars Grants from the Waterloo Schools Foundation to conduct experiments and attend academic summer camps. His work with Tesla Coils and a UNI professor helped him secure a spot at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium his sophomore year of high school. Nathan is the first Waterloo student to ever compete in this prestigious competition. One day, he hopes to use all of the important skills he’s acquired to become an astrophysicist.
