The Waterloo Schools Foundation is awarding $8,500 to Waterloo Schools students for the following student experiences:

  • Funding for Claire Vandersee to attend a Precollege Immersive Summer Theater Program at Lewis and Clark College. Vandersee will grow their theater, musical theater, and acting skills through theatrical acting, on-screen acting, and auditions. Over fifteen days, Vandersee will attend workshops and masterclasses taught by professionals and rehearse and perform a fully produced musical and cabaret.

  • Tuition assistance for the Intensive Law & Trial summer experience at Stanford University for De’Ariya Quinn. This ten-day immersive program will expose Quinn to the practice of law, legal rhetoric, and ethics from preeminent legal professionals. This experience includes a mock trial, where Quinn will practice essential legal skills, such as opening statements and closing arguments, preparing cases, and readying witnesses for cross-examination.

  • Assistance to attend the Blank Summer Institute for the Arts & Sciences at the Belin-Blank Center on the University of Iowa’s campus for Kade Morgan. Morgan will be studying meteorology, how climate affects living ecosystems, and observing changes in the landscape in real time.

  • Financial support for Kara Oberheu to attend Summer TUTTI’s Musical Theatre program at Denison University. With Oberheu’s ambitions to attend an Ivy League school, preferably Yale University, to study Theatrical Arts, this experience will not only strengthen their technique but also give insight into the professional world Oberheu hopes to enter one day as a director or actress on Broadway.

These grants will be funded through the Waterloo Schools Foundation’s grant cycle funds.

The grants above are in addition to WSF District Initiatives and other fundraising projects in partnership with the Waterloo Community School District. Grants funded focus on the Foundation’s five funding values: innovation, social emotional learning, longevity, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and financial hardship for academic access.
