WSF Awards Funding to Six Innovative Projects

The Waterloo Schools Foundation is proud to announce funding for six impactful projects led by Waterloo Schools educators and students. These projects will enhance student learning, elevate student voices, promote inclusion, and provide new opportunities for creativity, leadership, and real-world experiences across the district.
The following projects were selected for funding:

Andrew Scruggs, Kittrell Elementary - Greatness States Here: Kittrell Voices Podcast | $1,250
Provides technology support for Kittrell’s ‘Kittrell Voices’ podcast, a student-led podcasting project designed to highlight the excellence, resilience, and achievements of Kittrell students, staff, and families.
Aubryanna Engel, East High - Poetry Book | $1,500
Funding to assist in the publishing of Aubryanna’s poetry book, aiding in her goal of raising awareness for mental health in teenagers, and sharing her experience with others who can relate.
Carrie Fredericksen, Highland Elementary - Inclusive Community Representation via Play | $800
Resources to expand play materials for preschoolers, allowing them to engage with diverse materials and begin forming more accurate, respectful perspectives about others.
Jennifer Roster, Highland Elementary - Diverse Representation in the Classroom | $800
Support to enhance opportunities for preschoolers to engage with materials that represent a diverse and inclusive world where they can develop critical foundational skills to support social-emotional growth and academic success.

Keri Seda, Orange Elementary - Leadership Job - Photographers | $500
Upgrades to equipment for student photographers to document the incredible things happening across Orange Elementary, and provides students with a chance to take ownership and find where they belong within the classroom.
Nicole Goodman + Anders Elliott-Ott, West High - Upgraded Camera Equipment for West Journalism | $1,797.98
Additional funding to enhance the West High journalism program, including upgrades to equipment and access to cutting-edge technology, to further their abilities to utilize industry-relevant tools.

These grants will be funded through the Waterloo Schools Foundation's grant fund and other restricted dollars, all made possible thanks to the generosity of donors who believe in public education. In addition to these grants, the WSF continues to support the Waterloo Schools through various District Initiatives and other fundraising projects that align with the WCSD's strategic plan.
