The Waterloo Schools Foundation has received a legacy gift of $51,000. The gift, arranged by the late Ruth Pazdera, will establish the Ruth Pazdera Poyner Elementary Reading Endowment. The endowment will serve the purpose of promoting joy through reading at Poyner Elementary.
“The Foundation is deeply honored to receive this gift from Ms. Pazdera to continue supporting public education in Waterloo, specifically at Poyner Elementary. We are excited to work with Principal Willand to create opportunities for students to see the importance of literacy,” said Hannah Luce, Waterloo Schools Foundation Executive Director.
Ruth Pazdera was an Evansdale native and 1971 East High School alum. Pazdera moved away to pursue a career in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of Yeoman Second Class. After retiring as an Executive Assistant from Baxter Healthcare Corporation, Pazdera resided in Gilbertville. Pazdera had a voracious love of reading that began at Jewett Elementary in Evansdale.
"We are honored and humbled by the generosity of Ms. Ruth Pazdera and her family. Our school community will be forever grateful for the opportunities presented through the investment in our students' literacy,” said Jen Willand, Principal of Poyner Elementary.
