Waterloo Schools Foundation Announces September Grant Recipients
The Waterloo Schools Foundation is pleased to announce its September 2026 grant awards, supporting innovative projects and learning opportunities across the Waterloo Community School District.
These grants provide educators with resources to bring creative ideas to life, enhance classroom experiences, and help students explore new interests and possibilities. From hands-on learning experiences to innovative classroom projects, each project reflects the dedication of Waterloo educators and their commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for students.
The following projects have been selected for funding:
Follow the Fin: A Dolphin Tracking Project Jill Hennings, Lowell Elementary | $500 Students will use tracking technology to investigate real-world dolphin behaviors and habitats, finishing the project with interactive presentations for families.
Enhancing Choir at West High Holly Rose, West High School | $425 High school choir students will attend music festivals at local Universities to gain extra tools and encouragement as they prepare for All-State auditions and grow their overall choral confidence and motivation.
Engage & Excel - Boosting literacy referential for at-risk readers through multi-story learning Brandy Twedt, Kingsley Elementary | $1,241.23 Uses a hands-on, multi-sensory reading approach to help struggling students improve reading and writing skills, close learning gaps, and provide literacy support for students.
BPA Leadership Summit
Devon Winters, Waterloo Career Center | $2,850
Students will participate in a national leadership conference to develop professional skills, connect with industry experts, and gain confidence for their future careers.
These grants are made possible through the Waterloo Schools Foundation’s grant fund and other restricted dollars, supported by donors who believe in the importance of educational opportunities for Waterloo students.
Beyond the grant program, the Waterloo Schools Foundation continues to support the Waterloo Community School District through District Initiatives and other fundraising projects that align with the WCSD’s strategic plan.
